[Lectures on Faith]
A little more than a year after the destruction of the Independence press, the Kirtland High Council appointed Joseph Smith, Jr., Oliver Cowdery, Sidney Rigdon, and Frederick G. Williams to choose the carefully selected revelations to be published. This included the 65 chapters originally published in the Book of Commandments and the Evening and Morning Star.
It also has seven lectures on faith from the Schools of the Prophets. It contains 100 revelations from July 1828 to March 28, 1835, the minutes of the organization of the first High Council on February 17, 1834, and the minutes of the August 17, 1835 General Assembly.
There were approximately 1,000 books originally printed and the bindings appear in a number of styles. It is believed there are less than 50 complete Doctrine and Covenant originals in existence. This is the second rarest of the original Standard Works' First Editions in this offering. The first edition of The Pearl of Great Price, in wrappers, is approximately 5 times as rare as the Doctrine and Covenants and the First Edition of the Doctrine and Covenants is approximately five times as rare as the original Book of Mormon.
The book is intact with all pages, but has been rebound with a leather binding. The pages are in excellent condition.
