Joseph Smith translated this book from the Golden Plates and then had it typeset and published by E. D. Grandin in Palmyra, New York, in 1830. Martin Harris mortgaged his farm to guarantee the cost of publishing a print run of 5,000 books printed in the first edition. There are probably a few hundred books that have survived with most now in institutions or in private collections not for sale at any price.
Because of this Book of Mormon's unique connection as being the foundation for the restored Gospel, the first edition printing has become one of the most sought after treasures for rare book collectors. Prices continue to accelerate to new highs because of the very short supply of available books for sale.
This book's title page has had a corner restored but is intact with all printed text. The pages of the book are in excellent condition and are all intact.
